It seems these days as if the practices are doing more and more patient consultations via telephone. Much of this may be due to conditions current economic and the fact that patients are trying to avoid having to go and be seen, there will be a co-payment.

Whatever the reason doctors spend more time on the phone these days and wonder whether or not they can bill CPT codes for telephone inquiries and obtain a refund.

Unfortunately, Medicare will not pay for patient consultations by phone. In terms of other taxpayers, have to consult with them on a case by case basis.

If this problem has become a major problem for their practice and is absorbing a lot of your time, you may want to consider billing patients for this service.

Telephone services are typically billed using two sets of codes added to the index of CPT in 2008: The codes of 99441 to 99443 are for telephone services by physicians, while 98966 to 98968 are for services "qualified health professionals are not doctors." A Again, none of these codes are covered by Medicare, but the taxpayers more and more people are starting to reimburse private for this code so it is definitely worth checking with them to see if they will pay.

If you decide to bill patients for these codes, here are five things you should know about these codes:

• Can be billed only for "medical discussion" that is unrelated with E & M service was provided in the last seven days and does not result in a visit to the clinic within 24 hours or as soon as possible.

If your practice is to conduct a significant amount of telephone consultations that the revenue can add up to over a year and make a difference in the profits of their practice.

If you are considering billing for telephone consultations, here are some tips to help aa you get paid:

• Negotiate with private payers – the key is to document all cases over a year which gave him a phone query. • Receive payment for an expenditure growing practice – CPT codes for telephone E and M services were established for a reason. If the codes are in the CPT book, you have every right to code and bill for them. The key is to decide what time is billed directly by the query (ie, 15 minutes, etc) and see how they react to their patients and patients who do not want to run away, but has understand that your time is valuable.

This is a billable service is definitely worth looking into their practice. You will be amazed at the amount of the private payers may reimburse these codes. In addition, if patients know they have to pay for long telephone consultations, which can only decide come and take a visit face to face.
