China's history is rich and complex history of Chinese medicine and acupuncture is no less. There is evidence dating from the Shang Dynasty (c.1000 BC) in a relatively sophisticated approach to medical problems. Archaeological excavations have uncovered the first types of Acupuncture Needles, and observations on the medical conditions found inscribed on bones dating to this time.
According to China's emphasis on balance and government forces of nature, it seems likely medical practices developed through the observation of the natural world. Many of the elegant postures in Taiji and Qigong are derived from observation of behavior animal. For example, the movements of wild geese are the basis of Dayan Chi Kung, which relates these movements of the acupuncture points and energy of the body.
There is clear evidence of a shamanistic culture that exist in the early civilization of Asia, and many of the shamanic practices are believed to underlie the history of acupuncture in China. In the sixth century BC, the link between the shamans and the doctor was clear. Confucius is quoted as having said that "a man without persistence never make a good priest or a good doctor. "
The practice of Chinese acupuncture and massage developed empirically through observation the effects produced in certain parts of the body and specific ailments. At the beginning of acupuncture was carried out using sharpened bone fragments before other tools were developed.
For the first century AD, the classic text first and most important in Chinese medicine had been completed. This work, known as the Classic Interior (Huang Di Nei Jing), was compiled over the centuries by different authors and takes the form of a dialogue between the legendary Yellow Emperor and his minister Bo Qi on the subject of medicine.
This book provides the basis for the history of acupuncture and China over the centuries, this base has expanded, and specific works emerged in acupuncture and herbal remedies. Right in the twentieth century, much of the practice of Chinese medicine reflect the traditions that had developed over the past 3,000 years. By then, however, Western culture is also making an impact in China. The initial response was more traditional theories based on Yin and Yang and five elements to retreat under the weight of Western scientific thought. By the time the communists took power in China in 1949, it was not true dilemma on how best to deal with the apparent separation between the Western-based medical practices and those followed by traditional Chinese physicians.
In 1954, over the history of Chinese acupuncture was made when the government officially recognized traditional healers as representing a "health legacy of the country. "Thus began a parallel development of Western and Chinese medical practices. Texts of the most important schools in China have been translated and efforts are to achieve the principles of Chinese medicine accessible to the Western reader.
