With the development of technology, man has learned to use very reliable and accurate systems that require less labor. Automatic control systems are one such development. Control is defined as the science of the regulation of a parameter for comparison with a standard value. This is the objective of automatic control system. They monitor constantly out of the system and if this output is to deviate from the desired value, there is a control signal that server to reduce the change, providing an energy which leads to the component that is responsible for the deviation.
A system is said to be made of a number of components so that the behavior of the combination generally can predict whether
1. The behavior of each component can be predicted, and
2. The interaction between each component is known.
For Therefore, a system is obtained when a number of components are connected in a sequence to perform a specific function. Suppose that in a system, the amount output is controlled by altering the amount of input, and then such a system is called the control system.
The production quantity is called the variable controlled and input amount is called the input signal. Automatic control systems have become an integral part of modern manufacturing and industrial processes.
Examples:
"Manufacturing industry: numerical control machine tool.
industrial processes: control pressure, temperature and flow.
Basic definitions of the control system
Controlled variable:
The quality or condition that characterizes a process whose value remains constant for a treatment or change in accordance with an algorithm designed with the interests the nature of the system function being carried out.
Controlled environment:
The material in the process control system that the controlled variable exists.
Command
An entry that is set or modified by some external means, independent of the system feedback.
Set point or reference input:
A signal set as a benchmark for a system of feedback control by virtue of it commands respect. Set point or stays the same or varies with time depending a preset algorithm.
Drive signal:
An algebraic sum of the reference input and primary information. It is also called error or signal control.
magnitude of adjustment:
The quality or condition that varies signal action to change the value of the controlled variable.
primary feedback signal:
The role of controlled output, compared with the reference input signal for action.
Error detector:
An element sensing feedback, essentially a point of synthesis that gives the algebraic sum of its entries.
Disturbance:
A variable not allowed in the system that tends to negatively affect the system by changing the controlled variable. Disturbance may change in the set point, supply, demand, environment and other associated variables.
Comments item:
A control system element of regeneration which establishing a functional relationship between the controlled variable and the return signal.
System Requirements Control
Stability accuracy and speed of response are the three s requirement of a control system.
Stability:
A system is stable if the system output after fluctuations, variation or oscillation, if any, is based on a fair value for any input change or the change in the disturbance.
Accuracy:
A system is said to be 100 percent accurate if the error (difference between inputs and outputs) is zero. An accurate system is expensive. Has not no sense in going to 100 percent accurate system that much precision is not really necessary.
Sample accuracy:
When a variation of, for example 0.2 degrees Celsius can not be detected by a human being, there is no need for a heating system variation zero temperature.
Response Rate
This refers to the time spent by the system to respond to the input given and given that as the output. Theoretically, the response speed must be infinite, ie the system should have an instant response. This requirement is a prime concern for monitoring systems.
Any ideal system is perfectly stable and 100 percent accurate and has an instantaneous speed of the response. Unfortunately, the requirements are incompatible. Therefore there must be a compromise between these requirements.
