French kiss – the kind that make the French rather than the other kind – seems to have gotten some bad reputation. To hear people talk about is almost certainly to go out in public without some of the ground and plastering French kisses. Men, women, young, old …

The French made friends kiss as a greeting. In general, on both cheeks. It is often an air kiss between people who do not know very well, but close friends in touch. So when in doubt, extend your hand! The French always shake hands. I'll shake hands with a friend who I am on the street. Or someone know that I am in the bar. Or the mechanic I know in the garage. If someone comes to provide a service in my house, like fixing the phone, delivery of a new freezer or cite some construction work, I always will shake his hand. So is my wife.

Also do not kiss or shake hands, absolutely every time you meet, only the first time each day. So if you know someone in morning drinking coffee, sharing the appropriate greeting.
