Acupressure can be used to alleviate a number of different problems. In this article we will talk about acupressure for neck pain. There are several reasons for neck pain. One of the causes of pain in the neck may be torticollis. Essentially stiff neck or torticollis is a neck cramp. This is usually poor sleep or at times of trauma.
Five acupuncture points are used to relieve neck pain caused by the neck twisted:
- The first point is GV-16. The acu-point is located in the hollow at the base of the skull.
- If-15 is set at an angle of 45 degrees from the base of the neck (where the neck seems to attribute the body) and right next to the spine.
- If after-15 set, draw a straight line from point outwards from the body. GB-21 will be one finger width above this line and TW-15 fingers width below the mid-clavicular line. Just imagine you are drawing a line in your body dividing it from front to back right in the middle of your collarbone.
- The last point of acu-B-10 is located on both sides of the neck in the second level cervical spine width of three fingers below the GV-16.
Now that you have found the correct acu-points, you can begin treatment. Apply firm pressure, maintained for three seconds and release. Apply pressure with a circular motion to trigger points. You may feel a knot or tightness and may have pain at the site. This is a good sign that they are in the right place. Maintain pressure until you feel the relaxation area. You can also apply ice therapy in the area.
Many people want to apply a massage or use heat in the neck when they have pain in the neck twisted. These treatments may worsen the condition. Heat increases congestion the area and massage can increase muscle spasm. Do not handle, push or pull the muscles in this area. Avoid using heat therapy.
Use a pressure Soft to the acu-points several times a day. Start at the first sign of discomfort. You should feel the relief of pain increasing every day. If for some reason the pain persists, consult your doctor.
Always be careful with any alternative treatment if you are pregnant, a child or pre-existing medical conditions. Also, if you have an injury diagnosed acupressure not take the place of medical treatment.
