It is hard even for the most ardent of researchers to isolate IVF as solely responsible for the successful pregnancy of women afflicted with endometriosis. However, one thing’s for sure, with the help of IVF endometriosis can be conquered by women who want to conceive.

Britain’s leading newspaper The Guardian got hold of two cohort studies that tried to document the impact of IVF on women with endometriosis. One titled “Results of IVF in patients with endometriosis: the severity of the disease does not affect outcome, or the incidence of miscarriage” was printed on Human Reproduction in 1995, while the other-”Endometriosis: a stage by stage analysis: the role of in vitro fertilization”-appeared in Fertility and Sterility also in 1995. The Guardian said that according to these two studies, women with endometriosis stand a good chance of getting pregnant just as much as those affected by other types of infertility. And mild or severe, it looked like endometriosis is no barrier to having a baby for women undergoing IVF.

If you want facts and figures to back this information, you can visit the Human Fertilization and Embryology Authority website dedicated to monitoring and licensing British fertility clinics and all British research on human embryos. But since a cohort study differs from a clinical trial, it will still be hard to credit IVF for the sole success, because cohort studies do not say how many infertile couples would have a baby sans IVF. It will also be hard to tell, particularly in the cases of women with past pregnancies who later went for IVF.

In other words, figures alone will not verify exactly how much IVF treatment improved their chances to conceive. As far as The Guardian can say, there is no study-past or present-that focuses on the effects of IVF on endometriosis, alone. If it is any consolation, just be glad that IVF can help you overcome infertility, even with endometriosis in the picture. New alternative therapy boosts your chances with IVF
