Anyone who has seen Star Trek should be familiar with the famous Vulcan nerve pinch, that Mr. Spock and his Vulcan compatriots will be used to represent their enemies instantly unconscious simply by squeezing the nerves in the right place. I've always loved Star Trek as a child Vulcan nerve pinch was always one of those things I really wanted I could do.
Of course the actual nerve pinch, as shown in Star Trek, is a piece of fiction. But nevertheless, it is also true that the idea that it was not just plucked out of nowhere, but was based on something real. It's pretty safe to assume that the idea of the Vulcan nerve pinch was based on the Chinese art of manipulation pressure points. The same principles that are used for curing acupuncture and acupressure massage are also used in oriental martial arts for struggle and self-defense. The system that teaches martial arts students to do this is called "Dim Mak", and is sometimes known in the West as the art of touch death by his alleged ability to kill an opponent with a touch of the right combination of points.
Based on the system Dim Mak Kung Fu here is a technique for the provision of an opponent unconscious is actually very similar regardless Spock's famous Vulcan nerve pinch:
This technique actually consists of two different points handling pressure, either of which can cause unconsciousness, and can be easily combined to create a very reliable method.
The first part consists of applying pressure to the jugular notch, and it is this action that looks very similar to the nerve pinch. The jugular notch is the notch at the base of the throat below the Adam's apple in the center of the clavicle. This is one of the most effective and easy to use all pressure points. a short stick point fingers in the body causes a gag reflex dysfunction and complete engines, impressive efficacy opponent for about 2-4 seconds. Sustained pressure at this point may causes unconsciousness in 20 seconds or less. Approaching from the front must be pressed with the thumb in the jugular notch and spread the fingers to along the top of trapezuis muscle that runs from the neck to the shoulder, his fingertips digging into a good grip. This gives a good control points over his opponent, and greatly reduces its ability to resist or counter the attack.
The second part of the technique is a strike to the brachial plexus origin. Plexus brachial nerve runs down the side of the neck along just behind the clavicle and the front of the shoulder. The point I wish to strike at the base of the neck, both sides, one or two inches behind the clavicle, and about 1.5 to 2 inches on one side of the jugular notch. You can use a chop, or raise a joint of a fist and hit with it. A quality strike to this area call it immediately, but may be difficult to achieve the right place in a real fight, reason is uses the jugular notch to the initial shock and gain control. Work is not the first time just make sure you keep a lot of pressure on the notch jugular and try again. However, the cumulative effect of both attacks should work for the first time anyway, if successful, more or less the area of law to strike.
Dim Mak is a fascinating topic and a powerful martial arts that is often overlooked. I hope you enjoyed this short article, and take the time to delve into the subject that I think would be of great benefit to you if you have any interest in martial arts.
