Congratulations! Pregnancy can be a wonderful moment for those suffering from migraine and many women find their migraines decreased significantly during the second and third trimesters. Unfortunately, 15% of the women also notice an increase of migraines in the first quarter. This increase is mainly due to rapidly rising estrogen levels and other metabolic disorders in the body. If you are planning a pregnancy, be sure to tell your doctor immediately.

Why What is this? Most drugs are not safe to take if you are pregnant – especially those in the treatment of migraine as the triptans (drugs that can stop a migraine attack.) If you are taking prescription drugs for the treatment of migraine and is pregnant – Your baby may be at risk. Before planning on trying to get pregnant, it is very important to have a sit-down discussion with your doctor to determine which medications and supplements taken not safe for your baby.

Do not make the mistake of assuming that OTC medicines are safe because they do not require prescriptions. Even non-prescription medications such as aspirin and Advil (underdeveloped lungs) carries a risk of birth defects. Tylenol (acetaminophen) is approved for regular use (unless directed by your doctor) that is an option, but generally non-prescription analgesics are rarely effective in reducing migraine pain. OTC analgesics have a better record Tension headaches and body aches. No matter what, be sure to limit the use and follow all recommendations on the label. Acetaminophen is toxic at high doses and people die each year from over dosage of a drug, we assume that insurance is unconditional.

The best course of action is to be very diligent when it comes to driving them to escape, since this is their best chance of avoiding a migraine. This means you must be very strict stress management, eating healthy foods regularly (without triggers) and maintain a regular sleep schedule. Go ahead and use of herbal teas like ginger for nausea, but absolutely sure to avoid feverfew, and it is not safe for pregnant or lactating. Moreover, this may be a time to consider trying acupuncture or biofeedback, as these treatments are considered safe for pregnant women.

Any pregnant woman should know all medicines on the market is divided into a "risk of pregnancy" ranging from Category A, B, C, D and X by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (here in the United States). Drugs only in category A have been proven safe. Drugs in categories B and C show uncertainty to either the positive or negative, D and X categories show positive evidence of fetal risk. This information is updated all the time. Be sure to research the drugs you are taking or thinking use the latest information.

Some medications such as Fioricet Lortab abortion and still be used sparingly. Triptans should not take anything during pregnancy (unless prescribed by your personal physician and only if he or she knows you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant) and the effects of these drugs in developing babies are still unknown.
