Millions of Americans have had carpal tunnel syndrome or similar symptoms. Did you know that carpal tunnel syndrome can be helped by a doctor of chiropractic? It's true. Many Americans each year are successfully treated through chiropractic care for carpal tunnel syndrome.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition in which a nerve, the median nerve, to be precise, is compressed in the wrist area. To avoid permanent nerve damage, one must be treated immediately by a doctor of chiropractic or other physician performing the physical medicine. Medications may be prescribed by a primary care physician to relieve symptoms, but can only help the symptoms not necessarily the problem.

Symptoms usually start gradually. Burning, tingling, itching, and / or numbness in the palm, thumb, index and middle finger more common. Symptoms often appear for the first time during sleep. As symptoms worsen, you may feel tingling during the day. The dominant hand is usually affected first, possibly because repetitive movements. repetitive movements such as typing, knitting or twisting of the forearm and wrist may be the culprit in many cases. The rest of the affected hand and wrist, avoiding activities that worsen symptoms and immobilization the wrist with a splint to avoid twisting and bending can also be beneficial. Carpal tunnel symptoms are often found in women who are pregnant, especially in the third quarter. Some swelling that expected with pregnancy, but sometimes can be a bit out of hand.
