Tattoo art have a tattoo or tattoos, or are interested in getting one to be reading this article. So I think it's also worth knowing a little about the origins of tattoos, bearing in mind that they will be of use for the rest of our lives.
For example, the word tattoo comes from Polynesian "tatau" and "tatu" which means to take advantage and score Tahitian respectively. Nobody is really sure that tattoos began but you can be sure that they are involved many ancient civilizations around the world.
In fact it was probably by accident. Someone had cut to stop the bleeding a little ash and soot a fire that was rubbed into the wound. When cured it left a permanent mark. That leads to the idea of lines and marks, their first tattoos.
Ötzi Iceman is the oldest example known to have lived around 3300 BC. Was found in the Alps in 1991. He was 57 original tattoo designs on it. These consisted lines located near the kidneys, ankles, and a cross on the back of his left knee in known acupuncture points. Scientists think this may have been an early form of acupuncture to help suffering arthritis.
Egypt gives us our next examples are ancient mummies mostly women. These date from around 2000 BC. The most famous is the Amunet priestess. She appears mostly abstract patterns tattoo dots and dashes. These are mainly around your lower abdomen and pubic region. Leading archaeologists to believe that these are signs of fertility.
Moving further east of Japan, large burial chambers of the great emperors. Small clay figures with what appear to be tattoo marks on their faces were found. Most likely they were replacements for people who live to accompany the emperor symbolically dead in the afterlife. This seems to date back to around 2500 BC.
In another part of Pacific Ocean, but moving forward in time with the Maori, Hawaiians and Filipinos. These people used tribal tattoos. 'Moko' Maori is a tattoo Bold entire face to indicate the status and strength as a warrior. The Hawaiians also have dared Tribal tattoos, but animals including lizards, snakes and some brightly colored flowers. More in the north of Europe the Celts became famous for its Celtic tribal tattoos. What were bold and symbolic imagery is made animals. These were worn with pride by warriors going into battle.
Tattooing has also been used many times throughout history to mark criminals and slaves. The Romans marked their slaves so they could be easily identified and sold. In the 17 th century Japan was the subject tattoos of criminals and outcasts that would be rejected in the street by family and the public. More recently the Nazis in World War II.
He was to returning sailors from their ships after to explore the Pacific Ocean which led to the tattoos or tattaws' as Captain James Cook in 1760 called in western culture. But it was the invention of the electric tattoo machine in 1891 by Samuel O'Reilly really opened the infinite possibilities of intricate design of tattoo art.
