There is much fear of swine influenza (H1N1) in this season, but traditional Chinese medicine has effective techniques both to increase immunity and recovery from influenza are thousands of years old.

Much of the publicity and fear around this flu has been established, is that this flu does not seem to be more deadly than any other flu. (1) If you are in good health, your chances of losing the flu was reduced, and its rate of recovery is faster.

Vaccine Swine flu (and any other flu) may actually be more harmful than getting the actual flu. The vaccine contains mercury in the form of thimerosal (a preservative), and not has been extensively tested (2). Author and Illinois Osteopath Joseph Mercola points out that autism, which is increasing in our country among the children, not reported at all Amish do not vaccinate. (3)

In Chinese medicine, flu and colds are considered an invasion of the body from external pathogens, either cold or heat. Cold often converted into heat in the body, and have signs of sore throat, fatigue, headache and cough.

When our bodies Qi (Energy) – Especially Wei Qi (energy Immune) is strong, we are able to fight these invaders. The energy pathways responsible for maintaining strong Qi is the energy of the lung Digestive and Energy (which controls the Wei Qi.)

Qi To maintain our strong and prevent the flu and the common cold:

• Eat a healthy diet full of fresh fruits and raw vegetables
• Cut out sugar, especially white and brown sugar, corn syrup, corn syrup and high fructose. These lower immunity
• Wash your hands frequently with regular soap and water
• Go out in the open. Take a walk and sun exposure (vitamin D).
• Receive acupuncture treatments to balance energy – The Acupuncture strengthens the body, energy balances, and strengthens the Qi and Wei Qi.
• Herbal medicine and supplements can keep the immune system strong:
• Astragalus is an excellent immune tonic
• medicinal mushrooms such as Reishi and can reinforce Maitaki immune system, especially when the immune system is compromised
• Four Gentlemen Formula – A traditional Chinese herb formula for maintain strong Qi
• Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang, a combination of ginseng and astragalus, which is used in some cases to strengthen the body Qi
• Gui Pi Tang, used when both the qi and blood needs a boost, with signs such as insomnia, irritability and anxiety

Once someone comes down with flu symptoms, treatment activates the formulas that tonify the Qi to the formulas that drive invading pathogens. There are Western herbs and nutritional remedies such as vitamin C and echinacea, which are beneficial.

In Chinese medicine, classical formulas Herbal are used, including:

• Yin Qiao – detoxifying formula contains cooling herbs such as forsythia and honeysuckle. It is used only when sick, with symptoms including sore throat, headache, and a yellow tongue coating.
• Gan Mao Ling – If you're in the midst of a bad cold or flu

Another way to maintain strong immunity to either prevent or recover from the flu is to ensure that your digestion is very strong, for example:

• Eat plenty of fresh raw foods that are full of natural enzymes and vitamins and minerals that keep your body nourished and functioning at its best
• Take digestive enzymes with food for easier digestion
• The Bao Wan is an excellent Chinese herbal formula to aid digestion, especially if there is a feeling of fullness, bloating, gas and slow digestion after eating
• Eating fermented or cultured foods like yogurt, kefir, miso, vegetables grown and live
• Taking probiotic supplements

Chinese medicine and the flu, have existed for thousands of years. Healthier individuals are more resistant to colds and flus, and recover faster if they are sick. Strengthening digestion, toning the body of energy (qi) and immune power (wei qi) are good ways to avoid contracting the disease. If someone is sick, the focus shifts to the expulsion of the pathogenic influence and the creation of immunity again.
