Question:

I'm living my second bout of Bell's palsy in five years. Other people with the condition seem to have different recovery rates. The only conventional treatment is a short course of steroids, I'm taking. I got referred to a physiotherapist for the last time, with limited results. A course of acupuncture was beneficial, but the face of the nerves in my eyes and mouth grew back incorrectly, so I am concerned that this second bout could further weaken the area. Is there an alternative way to aid recovery?

Answer:

I know patients who have had attacks repeated Bell's palsy, but quite rare. The condition is caused by one of the sessions (often written as VII, each identified by Roman numerals) par cranial nerve. There are 13 pairs of cranial nerves that come directly from the brain. The couple VII control of facial muscles, one for each side of the face. Palsy there is a malfunction in the nerve connection to the tissues, so that the eyebrows, eyelids and mouth are visibly deformed. The eyelid does not close and therefore usually has to be patched or taped to dust particles. do not settle in the eye. The inclination of the lips to the side, which can cause drooling. Talking and drinking can be difficult because the mouth does not close properly. As the facial muscles do not work, there is no expression on the affected side.

The worst is the psychological effect how people can watch and ask embarrassing questions. Because the recovery period is variable, as mentioned, patients are always concerned about long-term effects.

Despite Bell's palsy is similar to a stroke, the damage is concentrated in a single nerve and center in the brain. A theory is that it is viral in nature, and I've seen several people that have developed after a 'chill'. My hypothesis is that the culprit is the vertebral arteries whose branches feed the nerves Vllth and center in the brainstem. Vertebral arteries, found in a bone-fibrous canal in the cervical spine, the blood supply to the unconscious part of the brain. I remember two patients, in particular, who came to me shortly after he had been attacked and showed remarkable signs of recovery after I used my technique to correct the misalignment in the neck. This improves blood flow to the brain, and if we accept that blood flow can be improved improve the condition, then it is logical to assume that the vertebral arteries, if they are slightly compressed by tight neck muscles can affect the function of nerve VII.

Having used this technique for the rehabilitation of victims of stroke and paralysis of a couple of decades, I have some experience in this field. The technique is being investigated by a leading British hospital to study its effectiveness in cases of acute stroke.

Here are my suggestions

* Do not drink coffee or alcohol.
* Do not drink fresh carrot juice, celery, potassium helps muscles and nerves.
* Drink two cups a day of chicken broth, homemade about an hour before your main meals for two weeks. This provides calcium and other nutrients.
* Take one capsule daily vitamin B complex and Bioenergy tablet twice a day, to help promote the healing of the nerves.

Hand massage affected

* Use the life style of massage oil to massage the neck, shoulders and behind the ear on the affected side, once a day. Start gently, then deeper massage as you grow to tolerate it. Do this for ten minutes.
* Now we face. Deep tissue massage (with index finger) areas front of the earlobe and jaw muscles for three to five minutes, followed by pressure from other points shown on the left (for paralysis the right side and the opposite on the other side). They are sensitive to touch. Not these facial exercises. Try to close the affected side while lifting the eyebrows (this resistance offers muscles that help open the eyes); pout your lips, then relax, blow their cheeks.

Therapeutic yoga
